Several people have been asking about marriage in our orkut community.

What the query of these people have been "if they will have love marriage or not". Sometimes the consistence is so much that out of ten queries seven would ask it in one way or another. This only goes to prove that the new generation is under heavy pressure to marry, in such a way that it is termed as Love Marriage. This can also be seen in one of the advertisement where an old lady is asked if she had a love marriage or not and the lady had to improvise and say that she also had a love marriage, and that she fell in love as the Barat was entering her house.

On this Blog we would like to put our view on 'Love Marriage'

When two individuals come together under the relationship of Marriage, both the individuals are said to have been tied in a knot with each other.

As per the thumb rule in astrological reasoning this coming together can be valuated under a test which gives 36 points and each relationship is measured in this scale of 36, (a number which in hindi is said when the two people are not in good terms - but not in astrology.)

Under the astrological system of 36 points

Varna (Work) having total score of 1
Vashya (Dominance) having total score of 2
Tara (Destiny) having total score of 3
Yoni (Mentality/Sexual desire) having score of 4
Grahamaitri (Compatibility) having a score of 5
Gana (Parental/Hormones) having a score of 6
Bhakoot (Love) having a score of 7
Nadi (Health) having a score of 8

Astrologically there are several other things too before an astrologer gives a comment but to understand the concept of marriage, these are the properties which are compared as a thumb rule.

So the first thing is Varna (Work) which means that one should look is that the two come from the similar working back ground, if one is from service back ground the other should preferably be from service back ground also, if one is from business and the other is from service, the one from service will have a habit of making monthly budget and starting from each pay day to another pay day, while the other being from business will not know about this life style but would be erratic and would make a budget from one order/sale to another. interesting combination

The next is Vashya (Dominance) which means that one should look who is the one who will dominate in that particular relationship, this has two points thus more than Varna (Work) for it is important to make an analysis who works and who dominates and how it is related in the relationship. (Dominance will be there, one will dominate the other, that is for sure, in a good relationship this does not show but flows under a pre-decided manner, in some relationships this power play shows and is the reason for understanding and also mis-understanding)

Now that the work has been seen and also the dominance has been seen, the next thing which comes is Tara (Destiny), to see how much if the two are destined to be together.

The next in the list is Yoni (mentality/Sexual desire) Here one thing what seems correct is that one will have to adjust to the other, and to do so one has to understand the other. this understanding will only come with a similar kind of mentality.

Having done with work, dominance, destiny and mentality the next important thing is that the relationship should have Grahmaitri (compatibility) and for a good compatibility one should understand the other and be ready to compromise.

Next comes the 'Gana' (Parental / Hormonal) which is also very important, and it is said that this aspect should be taken care too, and is given even more importance than the compatibility. more than twice the number of Dominance, meaning that if there is Gana Dosh, it will take away twice the points taken by compatibility. Just imagine parents trying to control the life of their kids, or for that matter what do you think of different parent types in a marriage.

The next and most important factor expected as of today is that of Love (Bhakoot) having 7 points, so this is also a very important point for marriage, and compatibility in this area is also important.

Last and the most points are given to health and if we think it is very right, because it is said that health is wealth and the two individuals proposed for marriage should be healthy, both in body and mind.

Now if we take it from this point of view - If healthy individuals both healthy in body and mind fall in love and want to get married take 15 points out of 36, passing grades for some exams.

and as per this system too fall short of passing marks, and need minimum 1 point, which can be had from Varna (Work), so if we take two healthy individuals for marriage both healthy in body and mind, and who are in love with each other want to marry and come from the same working background, it is just pass marks. So all those working in the same office and those who feel that they are in love having healthy body and mind, astrology will give you pass marks for marriage.

So all will agree that there should be something more to get good score, so a few score here and a few score there would make a good match.

But the question was about Love Marriage, where one falls in so called Love and then marries the person. While under the other system one first marries and then loves the one married to. Under both the system, .......... to be continued

What is Dharma

Since several days this question, has been coming forward and needed to be answered as to 'What is Dhrama' but before this question is taken up, another concept should also be answered at this point.
Life is a journey, which goes thru several paths, some are well lite while others are dark, some are smooth while some are rough. During this journey one comes to several crossings, where one has to decide which road or path to be taken. Whenever such a crossing comes one is left with one's own experience and that of the other's when they had came to a similar crossing, but as it can only be similar and not the same, so what to do, it is here that Dharma comes to rescue. So Dharma is which tells one the right path. So we can easily say that Dharma is which tells us the right path. Now comes what is Right and what is Wrong. What is right could be wrong for another and what is wrong for one could be right for another. Does Dharma also change, then the answer is yes Dharma also changes, so what is dharma is also adharma, then yes, what is adharma can also be dharma.

This can easily be explained in a simple example
Is eating meat Right or Wrong?
For a Cow it is wrong but for a lion it is Right.
If we look at the jaws and digestive system of both the animals we can clearly say what is right and what is wrong. But the Human's have a system where the jaw and digestive system is for both, so it is here that we stand at a cross road and would like to know what is Dharm yukt it only here that the answer becomes self explanatory, and answers our query and helps us to define Dharma. So it is our Dharma to be vegetarian if one has a choice between vegetarian and meat foods. Take the case of Hindus which had its base in the Gangetic planes where the choice of both was there, it was said that one should be vegetarian, as being vegetarian was best for the human body, but take the case of Chritians and Muslims which had its starting in the Deserts where there is hardly any vegetation, meat is the only food and vegetarian food a luxury, these two religions opted for both the foods. So for the followers of Vedas it was vegetrian food Dharm yukt, while for the muslims and christians it was both. Also look at another example Christians migrated to colder places so even got wine as parsad. Take the case of Tibetian monks meat is not a taboo as Tibet is also a place where vegetation is not much.
